The Gatsby T Level Employer of the Year category was gained by the Derbyshire-based national contractor which beat some internationally recognised companies to take the title.
The judges were looking for proactive employers in any industry, who could demonstrate how they have delivered an exemplary T Level Programme that has benefited their organisation and Individual T Level students.
B+K launched its industry placement programme in 2020 with a clear mission: to provide young people with real-world experience in the construction industry and help them transition seamlessly from education to employment. As part of the initiative they have worked closely with colleges across the UK to develop T-Level curriculums and collaborated on T-Level pilot schemes, ensuring that the training aligns with the actual demands of the industry.
Bowmer + Kirkland Chairman, Jack Kirkland, said; “I am absolutely delighted that our commitment to and investment in young people through our T-Level placement programme has been recognised at the National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards. By offering these placements, we’re able to provide a clear and practical entry point into the construction industry. We’re also breaking down stereotypes and showcasing the diverse range of roles available within the sector. This helps us increase our talent pool and attract a more diverse range of candidates.”
Since 2020 Bowmer + Kirkland has:
Set up partnerships with 47 colleges
Provided 7,000 hours of educational engagement through T-Levels
Supported 182 T-Level students
Young people undertaking a T-Level placement with Bowmer + Kirkland gain valuable real-world experience allowing them to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to live construction projects, helping them build their skills and prepare for full-time employment. Students receive one-to-one mentoring, CV workshops, and site visits, ensuring they are well-prepared for the next stage of their careers. B+K placements provide students with the opportunity to meet industry professionals, which can be instrumental in securing future employment.
