Supply chain

Our supply chain is integral to the success of every project that we deliver

We treat our suppliers as important members of the Bowmer + Kirkland team. Therefore, we have to be sure that their skills, training, values based on respect, trust, transparency and fairness and financial stability match ours.

By promoting a 'one team' ethos and sharing our policies and procedures with suppliers we're able to deliver the best service for our clients, this, combined with our close relationships with all of our approved sub-contractors enables us to continually improve and achieve the best results through collaborative working.

Fair payment terms for all suppliers

At Bowmer + Kirkland we place great importance on paying our supply chain in line with our payment terms and we publish our payment record bi-annually as required by the Payment Practices and  Performance Regulations 2017. We have consistently achieved the obligations of the Fair Payment Code with 95% of invoices paid within 60 days and look at all times to work to the Fair Payment Code’s principle core values of being clear, fair and collaborative with our suppliers.

We continue to target improvements in our payment performance to reduce the number of late and disputed payments.

Demonstrating compliance

As a responsible business it is imperative that we demonstrate compliance with key legislation and we need our suppliers to comply with certain standards before we consider them as supply chain partners.

Our continued partnership with Constructionline helps us do just that through an external pre-qualification process to help with validation.

As part of the Constructionline Gold accreditation - ‘Common Assessment Standard’ - as the core PQQ process for competence and capability assessment. This requirement applies to all suppliers working across our projects. Those working on our Framework projects are expected to have achieved or upgrade to Constructionline Gold + Social Value add-on is required for suppliers on any public sector framework or public procurement funded project required to report under the Social Value module as soon as practically possible and prior to starting new projects.

As a member of Build UK, and we are committed to simplifying and strengthening our supply chain relationships by recognising the value of consistent, high-quality prequalification standards. As part of this commitment, we accept the Common Assessment Standard (CAS) from any recognised assessment body.

A supplier holding a valid CAS certification does not need to undergo duplicate prequalification processes when working with Bowmer + Kirkland.

Our approach supports industry-wide alignment, promotes best practice, and ensures that all suppliers meet the required standards in areas such as health and safety, environmental management, quality, and corporate responsibility.

We use the ConstructionLine platform where ConstructionLine Gold is our version of the Common Assessment Standard

If your business holds a current CAS certificate from a recognised body other than ConstructionLine, it will be accepted as part of our prequalification process.

Considerate Constructors Scheme

As a Partner of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, all of our projects are registered, all site operatives are expected to conduct themselves with the utmost respect for the local community on and around the site.

Thanks to our suppliers and project teams many of our schemes are recognised in the annual Considerate Constructors National Site Awards for outstanding commitment to the CCS Code of Considerate Practice in the areas of Community, Environment and Workforce.

Supporting our supply chain

We are major supporters of the Lighthouse Charity, which make an incredible impact on individuals in the construction industry through their emotional and financial support at times of crisis and through their #makeitvisblecampaign, the charity regularly visits our sites to provide free and crucial support services to our suppliers.
