Bowmer + Kirkland’s Western team has secured a second Gateway 2 approval for a purpose-built student accommodation development in Bristol.
The Building Safety Act Gateway 2 approval has been achieved for Temple Reach, a 22-storey scheme which Bowmer + Kirkland will deliver for Cubex. The development will include 531 student rooms and 4,300 sq ft of workspace. Located in the Temple Quarter area of the city, the development will transform a former industrial site close to the River Avon and play a key role in connecting the University of Bristol’s Enterprise Campus with the River Avon.
Regional Director, Alex Reynolds said: “We are delighted to have supported our client, Cubex, on the successful Gateway 2 application for the Temple Reach PBSA scheme. This milestone represents the Western Region’s second Gateway 2 approval for 2025 and further adds to the wider B+K group success in supporting clients across the country through the Building Safety Act Gateway process.
“This achievement highlights the strength of our teams’ expertise, collaboration, and commitment to delivering first-class results for our clients, every time. We look forward to continuing to work with Cubex and the wider project team as we move towards commencing this exciting development on site. Our thanks go to our teams, partners, and client for their continued commitment, professionalism, and determination in achieving this success.”
William Tomlinson, Development Director, Cubex: “Gateway 2 approval for a 22-storey PBSA scheme is a significant achievement, and this success reflects the exceptional capability, rigour, and leadership within Bowmer + Kirkland’s Western team. The Building Safety Act has set a new benchmark for our industry, and B+K continue to demonstrate what ‘best in class’ delivery looks like in this new landscape. Temple Reach is a transformational project for Bristol’s Temple Quarter, and we are proud to be partnering with a contractor who brings such depth of expertise, clarity of process, and commitment to excellence.’
In September 2025, B+K’s Western team secured approval from the Building Safety Regulator for Albert Road, a 454 bed student housing of heights ranging from eight to 17 storeys, also based in the Temple Quarter area of the city.
