We have started construction on phase one of Space Park. Leicester - a scientific research facility which will eventually be a global centre for the space industry. The University of Leicester is the lead partner in the £135m project which is anticipated to contribute £750m to the economy by becoming a world leader in the manufacture of satellites and the processing of their data. This first phase is a £13M design and construction project of a space and scientific research facility comprising two wings of offices, teaching spaces and laboratories. Aerospace and technology companies such as Hewlett Packard and Airbus have already indicated future involvement with the site and the University of Leicester hopes it could become a catalyst for other multi-nationals to bring millions of pounds of investment to the city and the region. Space Park, Leicester is expected to create at least 2,500 jobs. Construction will be complete by the end of January 2021.
