The UK’s first Greek Orthodox School in the UK, delivered by Bowmer + Kirkland, held its grand opening in November 2025 with the Rt Hon Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson and Bishop lakovos of Claudiopolis, Assistant Bishop for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateria and Great Britain, as guests of honour.
Bowmer + Kirkland’s Southern team successfully delivered the scheme through the Department for Education's Construction Framework. The project included the provision of a three storey teaching block with basement car parking, a rooftop multi-use sports area, plus a separate sports block and external 4G sports pitch. This will provide high-quality, modern learning and sports facilities, designed to support education now and for generations to come.
Work on the £43m project began May 2023 and completed in August 2025. The B+K team handed over the school on time, working in partnership throughout the project with the school, the Russell Education Trust and the Cromer Group.
The completion of the school marks the culmination of a 12-year journey to secure a permanent home. The main school building has been dedicated to the late Yiannis Pareas, founding Chair of Governors, whose leadership was central to the school’s development. His wife, Marina Pareas, unveiled the building name during the ceremony.
Regional Director for Bowmer + Kirkland, Nick Harding said: “We are delighted to have successfully delivered this flagship project for pupils, teachers and the wider community. The end result speaks for itself and we are pleased that the school now has a permanent home to be proud of.
“Through close collaboration with the school and the wider project team everyone has worked extremely hard to ensure the school opened on time for the 2025/26 academic year.”
Bowmer + Kirkland is a trusted partner of the Department for Education, delivering high-quality learning environments that support the future of education, delivering primary and secondary schools along with SEN and academy builds.
