Bowmer + Kirkland has been awarded the contract to deliver the full internal fit-out of HMRC’s Pilgrim’s Quarter development in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The contract follows the successful delivery of the Pilgrim’s Quarter building, a highly complex development within the wider Pilgrim Street regeneration zone. Pilgrim’s Quarter will be the largest of HMRC’s regional centres and a major government hub, bringing together over 9,000 colleagues from HMRC and across multiple government departments.
The CAT B office fit-out works for the scheme will cover approximately 43,000m2 across nine floors, the B+K team will also manage the CAT C works. The comprehensive programme will include mechanical, electrical, audio/visual, furniture, fixture and equipment installations to deliver high specification, modern workspaces for thousands of Civil Servants, the works are set for competition to enable staff to start moving in during Autumn 2027.
Bowmer + Kirkland’s Regional Director, Ed Besford said: “We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to see the Pilgrim’s Quarter scheme through from concept to completion.
“The exterior of the building is a fantastic showcase of how a modern structure can seamlessly integrate with a traditional one thanks to the extensive original façade that has been retained. We are extremely proud of what has been achieved so far and are looking forward to seeing the fit-out phase of the project come together to complete this landmark project in Newcastle.”
Bowmer + Kirkland achieved practical completion on Pilgrim’s Quarter in December 2025, read the full story here.
