Bowmer + Kirkland, one of the largest and most successful privately-owned construction companies in the UK, has been named as a regional finalist of The Department for Education Gatsby T Level Employer of the Year in the National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards 2025 at the East Midlands ceremony in Leicester on 9 October 2025.
The award celebrates employers from different sectors who can showcase their commitment, and contribution to delivering an exemplary T Level programme which benefits individual T Level students and our organisation.
Bowmer + Kirkland is passionate about the power of T Levels and has built an exceptional programme by working alongside colleges across the UK, initially helping to develop the T Level curriculum, and now aligning course work and training with the demands of the industry.
Since its launch in 2020, the company’s T Level programme has delivered more than 7000 hours of educational engagement, partnered with 47 colleges and hosted hundreds of student placements.
“We are delighted to be a regional finalist in these awards, since the introduction of T Levels in 2020, we have worked hard to integrate the programme into our business.” Says Julia Hellyer, Bowmer + Kirkland’s Group Social Value Manager. “The student placements address the key issues within our industry; skills shortages, an ageing workforce and declining interest in construction in younger generations, head on.
“T Level students who join us are better prepared for the workplace and many progress to secure places on our Degree Apprenticeship schemes thanks to the skills and experience they have gained whilst on placement with us.” She added.
The National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards will culminate in a final ceremony, where all regional winners from each category will come together to compete for the esteemed title of national winner in their respective fields.
