Bowmer + Kirkland delivered this 12-storey office building for the HMRC on behalf of Sladen Developments providing Cat A+ office space, basement carparking and associated external works.

The building is 50m in height, located on the site of a former multi storey car park which is bounded to the North by the River Leen and railway line, by Sheriffs Way to the East and to the South Castle Rock Brewery. The building has two floors below ground, a Ground Floor and nine floors above with a tenth-floor plantroom. The project is envisaged to be the first of two buildings that will occupy the site.

Substantial dewatering was required to allow the basement contig piling and waterproof concrete walls to be installed. The main structure of the building was steelwork frame centred around a steel core with 8 lifts and 2 stairs cores. Composite concrete decking was installed to the floor slabs.

The façade consisted of precast concrete panels and a high specification blast resistant unitised glazing system, that was sourced using a specialist German contractor FKN, this was their first venture in the UK market.

The lower ground and basement areas provide car parking for 108 cars, welfare facilities and plant space. Ground floor level featured a double height reception. Levels 1 to 9 provided open plan office facilities and a central core comprising lifts and toilet accommodation, with level 10 being used for plant space and building infrastructure.
