Tring School

Share project

Tring School is a Church of England school, supported by the Diocese of St. Albans. The school buildings have evolved over the last sixty years, with a mixture of traditional load-bearing brick; and steel frame structures.

The school buildings have developed over time and are typical of many school sites in the post war era, where expansion and one-off projects have resulted in an ad hoc spread of buildings of different styles and quality. The buildings are a mixture of construction types and age ranging from concrete framed 1950’s original construction with facing brick facades, sports hall with inflated roof, metal framed clad buildings.

The school site is located off the northwestern side of Mortimer Hill in central Tring. It lies within a predominantly residential area. The site is flanked by a recreational ground on its western boundary which contains a number of dominant trees.

The scheme in essence is to provide 8985m2 of new /replacement schools accommodation including new kitchen / dining halls, sports hall, specialist classroom areas and ancillary staff offices. All this was to be undertaken while keeping the school live and operations. Therefore, 2515m2 of temporary classrooms were provided to facilitate this. The contract was a true D&B contract with B+K undertaken all pre-construction design and planning activities, followed with construction.
