Construction of a joint training centre for the Derbyshire Police Fire Partnership

This project was undertaken for the Derbyshire Police and Fire Partnership which combined forces to provide a future-proof training environment for both the Fire & Rescue and Police services to work collaboratively to save both capital and revenue. The Fire & Rescue Service relocated from their previous HQ in Littleover, Derby, to the new Derbyshire Police Headquarters which we complete also completed.

This new training facility has cemented the partnership, providing a much-needed training environment and resource for these essential blue light services. Given that the Fire & Rescue Service and Police Service interfaces have never been combined before, a great deal of time was spent in designing and agreeing a compatible system that achieved the requirements and specifications for both parties.

Prior to the construction of the new training centre, demolition was carried out on the existing portal frame storage building and associated garages. The project was broken down into two stages, these included a new two-storey joint training centre for the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, three double bay vehicle garages with covered wash facilities, two training towers (5m and 7m), underground tunnels, Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT) simulation units, an appliance bay, a motorway training area, a cold smoke house, other external works and car parking. Plus, a 50m training/firing range (including fit-out) for the Derbyshire Police Service which is linked to the Fire & Rescue training centre, with external works and car parking.
