Located in the heart of Nottingham city centre within the NTU campus, this new state-of-the-art nine storey building has been created to house the Nottingham School of Art & Design and will provide 5,300m2 of new teaching and creative learning space.
The building is situated on the site where several three storey buildings were demolished. The building development was constricted by University Hall, a Grade-II listed building to the west and to the north by the Nottingham Mechanics Institute building.
The works included an in-situ concrete frame and concrete floor slabs. Facade works include ceramic cladding panels, curtain walling and render to some areas. Carefully managed footpath and road closures are required during the build process.
The facilities provided include collaborative studio spaces, a Digital Innovation Lab and VR Studio, exhibition spaces, a TV and Film Studio, a Black Box studio, film production editing suites, a screen printing room, sound studios, and a Stop Motion Studio.
The building supports NTU’s zero carbon commitment and has been designed with the aim of achieving BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and DEC ‘A’ ratings.
