Ancoats Mobility Hub is an innovative solution to support the future development of the Portland Street area of Manchester procured through the North West Construction Hub framework.
The Hub will provide spaces for resident and visitor parking, taking vehicles off local roads, as well as proving sustainable transport options in a community setting alongside the fully refurbished Ancoats Green. The Hub will be an integral part of prioritising people over vehicles and integral in supporting the cities NZC by 2038 target.
The design of the Mobility Hub is intentionally compact so that there will be more public realm and space for planting, connecting with the soon-to-be refurbished Ancoats Green. It is a highly-sustainable SMART transport hub which provides 400 parking spaces with 25% providing EV charging with the capability to provide 100% EV charging in the future.
In addition, there are 150 secure bike parking spaces, changing facilities, a parcel delivery hub, space for a café and retail unit which open up onto Ancoats Green, plus 1370m2 of landscaped public realm.
The eye-catching building feature a 400m2 lush green wall which sits at the centre of the building and 950m2 of planted façade , which is the equivalent size of seven tennis courts, helping to increase biodiversity directly on site and to the surrounding areas, remove and reduce air pollutants, attenuate rainwater, reduce noise and visually enhance this part of the city for its residents.
