Adding value to Chippenham’s RISE Trust

As part of our commitment to delivering meaningful social value across our construction projects, our Industrial and Logistics team, working on the Siemens Mobility’s site in Chippenham, provided some much-needed renovation works to a charitable community trust also based in the town.

The RISE Trust offers a variety of services for families in Chippenham and North Wiltshire, including mentoring and support for children from pre-school age through to young adulthood, as well as a parent support advisory service.

The Siemens Chippenham team had already established a connection with the Trust, and once on site, the Bowmer + Kirkland team were keen to provide support. After an initial meeting to explore how they could support, it quickly became clear that the centre’s outdoor area was in need of improvement. Together with the Trust’s CEO, Lynn Evans, the team agreed on a plan to upgrade the space.

The project team created a full schedule of works, covering clearing the site, a logistical plan which ensured the safe movement of vehicles and enlisted the help of trusted local subcontractors to undertake the work, with all team members working on a voluntary basis to complete the work.

The team completed the project in just three weeks, transforming the outdoor area with new fencing, decking and astroturf, making it safe for youngsters to enjoy.

Richard Day, Senior Project Manager for Bowmer + Kirkland: “Having heard about the RISE Trust from our client team at Siemens we knew that we could help them in some way. We have thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in the transformation of the garden area from concept to completion and are extremely thankful to our trusted suppliers MJ Church, Wyatt Fencing and Southwest Civils for providing support”.

“Whilst delivering a high specification and complex project, it is hugely rewarding to be able to use our expertise and resources to contribute to helping local organisations that provide valuable resources to local communities. The team at the RISE Trust work extremely hard to support local families and we are pleased to be able to contribute in a small way to the brilliant work the team does.”

Lynn Evans, CEO of the RISE Trust said: “The RISE Trust staff and children are delighted with the new pre-school deck and grass area that Bowmer + Kirkland generously donated in August. The work was completed professionally and in good time ready for the children coming back after the summer holidays. Their faces were a picture when they saw it for the first time! The area that has been developed would have had to stay in disrepair for some time without the gift of time, funding and people power. We now have a much bigger space to explore, and we are excited to develop the area for even more outdoor play. Thank you so much B+K!”

Bowmer + Kirkland’s Group Social Value Manager, Julia Hellyer said: “The social value that we deliver on projects is generated in all sorts of ways from inspiring youngsters to consider careers in construction to our project teams rolling their sleeves up and getting involved in side projects which help the local community.

“We’re pleased that this regeneration project delivered more than £12,000 of social value to the local community, as measured using the TOMs System. This figure includes the value of people’s time spent on the works which included building, fencing and project management plus the in-kind donations of materials including skips, wood, paint etc."
