Staff got to work helping to restore a 30 meter stretch of the site's 30 miles of hedgerow, coppicing the hedges to encourage new growth and introducing young plants which will grow to around 4-6ft in just two to three years.
St Ann’s Allotments is a registered charity and is one of the oldest allotment sites in the UK, it is a Grade 2* English Heritage site and a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation. it is a registered charity and is one of the oldest and largest allotment sites in the UK. Back in November 2024, our team assisted the Renewal Trust in fostering a relationship with students at the University of Derby to introduce Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping for the 75-acre site which includes 670 individual allotment gardens, to enable students to effectively use the site as part of their environmental studies.
In addition to volunteering on site we have also provided policy and procedures guidance and offered to help with bid writing to support the organisation. We have also provided the site a series of banners to communicate the excellent work that is taking place there to restore the hedgerows to visitors, users of the site and the wider community. We're looking forward to working more closely with the St Ann's team in the future.
