Now a trainee site engineer in the North Midlands and Yorkshire region, Archie is studying for a Level 4 HNC in Site Supervision and Design & Build Technician while gaining hands-on experience on-site every day.
Archie’s days are filled with on-site activity, liaising with subcontractors, surveying, and ensuring works meet the required specifications. “There’s a lot of coordination involved, solving problems as they arise and making sure every part of the job is aligned with the drawings and plans,” he explains. “It’s a balance of technical knowledge and practical thinking.”
From sharp attention to detail to strong communication, Archie believes a successful site engineer needs a well-rounded skillset. “Being aware of site safety, solving problems quickly, and keeping everyone aligned are vital parts of the job,” he says. “No two days are ever the same.”
Balancing full-time work, ongoing studies, and a personal life is no easy feat, but Archie manages it through careful planning. “It’s all about prioritisation,” he says. “Some weeks, studying takes the front seat. Other times, I can make more space for friends and family. Organisation is everything.” Why Bowmer + Kirkland? For Archie, the standout part of working at B+K is the support he receives. “From day one, I’ve felt like part of a team that genuinely wants me to succeed,” he shares. “They provide great opportunities to learn and grow, both on-site and through formal training. You’re not just a number here, it’s a company that invests in people.”
As he looks ahead in his career, Archie is excited about continuing to learn, take on more responsibility, and contribute to the kinds of projects that first sparked his interest.
