About the role
We are now looking to strengthen our team with the appointment of a Graduate Design Manager to work as part of the Design Management team, ensuring the smooth running of multi-million-pound contracts across the country. This is a full time, permanent role, over 5 days per week.
Key responsibilities
Supporting the Design Team throughout the full construction process, often on multiple projects, to maximise opportunities and mitigate risks.
Undertaking design review and option analysis, providing Value Engineering input where applicable. Supporting interrogation of tender and construction stage quotations and management of subcontractor workshops.
Supporting design management with a high level of technical understanding alongside contractual, commercial and programme awareness. Understand any modelling requirements and ensure these are maintained throughout the life of the project and in line with the contract.
Inputting into high quality tender, prequalification and contractors’ proposal submissions. Developing and demonstrating commercial acumen throughout these processes. Recommend and manage necessary further surveys if required.
Managing the document control requirements, supporting input into the design programming alongside the planner and wider consultant and subcontract team.
Supporting the design relationship between the Client, Design Consultants, designing subcontractors and statutory bodies, acting as the point of contact on design matters.
Supporting Company compliance and all design consultants/subcontractors within the scope of the CDM Regulations.
Support identification of any variances from scopes and specifications contained within CP’s or ER’s as the design develops.
Key skills and experience required
Essential
Degree in a Construction, Design or Architecture discipline
Full clean driving license and willingness to travel
Desired
Excellent leadership, delegation and coaching skills.
Previous experience of work on projects in commercial/schools/hotels.
Strong technical background with a good understanding of cost control and detailed design.
Knowledge and experience of tendering and preconstruction.
Understanding of CDM and BREEAM, as well as current legislative requirements.
Excellent communication and listening skills.
Report writing and presentation skills.
Able to organise and prioritise workload, whilst adhering to tight deadlines.
Strong IT skills and an ability to adapt to new programmes/software quickly.
